About a year ago I bought a Macbook Pro. Being my first foray into the world of Mac the program I was most curious to try was the music creation program GarageBand. What follows is my first attempt at making music with it… featuring a special guest appearance by Bob Marley.
A song I wrote after listening to a LOT of Slayer…
It’s been quite a while since I’ve got stuck into some serious music making but I’m planning a musical resurgence. I’ve got lots of ideas swirling around my diseased imagination but until they become a reality I thought I’d post this unfinished experiment of a song just for the sake of posting something.
Lately my internet connection has been slower than a geriatric behind the wheel so to pass the time during page loads I’ve been dicking around with my bass and I came up with a bassline that I think sounds pretty cool. I normally play with a pick but I came up with this using my READ MORE
A few months ago I posted a song I wrote for summer 2012 sans vocals. I recently got around to recording the vocals and while I know that summer’s a good 6 months away I figure getting into the spirit of summer could help us get through these cold wet months that are only just READ MORE
While a large portion of Cape Town were getting off their faces and watching live music at Synergy I was at home rekindling my brief musical love affair with Cubase. I don’t have much to show for it but I did make some ska music.
I bring you some Valentine’s Day emo-ness in the form of music.
After several months of messing with Cubase I’ve decided to go back to my old DAW (the program used to record music with). To celebrate my return to the world of sub-standard home recordings I wrote a song about not being a stoner.
If there’s one thing day jobs are good for it’s driving a person to murderous rampage. I wrote a song about this very topic but I’m so busy with work stuff these days that I don’t know when I’ll ever get around to finishing it.
I spent an hour and a half yesterday making this bit of music. I could probably lie to myself and pretend I’m going to carry on working on it and that I’ll make it better but the truth is I’m really never going to touch it again so here it is.
This is without a doubt the gayest thing I’ve ever done.
A sober Friday night in led to the creation of an accidentally African sounding bit of music. Not wanting to deny the natural trajectory that the music was taking I decided to go with the flow and make it as African as I could. This was the result.
A while back I was working on a cover of the Leonard Cohen song ‘Dance me to the End of Love’ but my computer crashed before I could finish it so all that remains is the 48 second intro.
Summer is approaching fast and we all know that with summer comes an insatiable thirst for alcohol so I thought I’d write a song about it. Before I ruin it with vocals though I thought I’d post what I came up with.
I recently got my hands on a copy of Cubase. Cubase is one of the leading industry standards for audio recording and quite powerful if you know how to use it. Unfortunately I don’t really know how to use it… but I’m learning.
